How to Recover Permanently Deleted Files and Folders in Your Computer

Hey, Don’t worry! you can easily restore your permanently deleted files.

Many times you accidentally delete an important file, even empty your recycle bin  or permanently delete your file by shift+delete keys then how to recover those files? sometimes you may lose all your important files when your computer crashes and you do not keep any back ups in external drive or cloud, then what to do?

For me, most precious files other than my official files are photographs and videos, as I can find official files in my official computer or emails, even I can find movies, songs and softwares  but I can’t find my photos and personal videos, once they are gone I may lose all the memories of my very special moments like of my marriage.

(Quick tip: I keep multiple back ups of all my important files and special photos in Dropbox, OneDrive and external hard drives, Just in case).

Say you lost your files and you want to recover it, how to do it?
There are various ways and hacks to recover your files, broadly they are 1) Using data recovery software and 2) simple hacks of recovery like system restore. Let me explain you few of them which I find very effective.

How to recover permanently deleted files without any software?

Windows has an important feature which most of us do not know or don’t use it, it is known as Previous versions, it is nothing but a copy of files and folders created by Windows Backup or System Restore that is automatically saved to create a restore point. You can use previous versions to restore files and folders that you accidentally modified or deleted, or that were damaged. Depending on the type of file or folder, you can open, save to a different location, or restore a previous version.

How to use previous versions?
You need to turn on system protection for all the partition of your hard drive in order to use it, System protection is automatically turned on for the drive that Windows is installed on. You can turn it on for other drives by following the steps below.

  1. Got Control Panel\System and Security\System .
  2. In the left pane, click System protection. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Click the drive, and then click Configure.
  4. Do one of the following:
  5. Click Restore system settings and previous versions of files.
  6. Click OK.

How do I recover deleted files using previous versions?

Here is nice video which explains how you can recover your files without using any software. Please note that you may not need to re-create new folder, if your folder or file was inside any other folder.


Note: If the Restore button isn’t available, you can’t restore a previous version of the file or folder to its original location. However, you might be able to open it or save it to a different location.
