Blinkist: An App For Life Long Learners

Do you love reading and learning from non-fiction books?

Or would you at least love to read it more often but run out of time throughout the day that you’re unable to keep up with that 20-40 min of daily reading recommendations by Tony Robbins, James Altucher, Ryan Holiday?

Then here’s an app that will help you exercise your brain and get your reading index higher day by day.

Introducing Blinkist

Blinkist is an app for tablets and smartphones that allows you to save time from reading the complete book from beginning to end without compromising on the important message of the book.

It condenses a non-fiction book to bite-sized compilation of chapters, called as ‘Blink’. The chapters do a great job to pass on the underlying content to you.

And it’s not a reason to stop reading books altogether, but a way to inspire yourself to get a taste of the sampler before you want to order the whole course.

Blinks aren’t meant to replace books. Blinks are made to be brief, so their very format keeps them from filling a book’s formidable (if imaginary) shoes.

You can select books in a wide array of topics viz, psychology, marketing, personal development, entrepreneurship, health, etc.

We read over 1,000 books per year for you and provide you with the most important facts – so you can do more, earn more and be more. All by spending less time reading.

Highly recommended to people who are passionate about life-long learning and want to instill their minds with invaluable knowledge that they can use in their personal lives to learn and grow.

Download Blinkist

The app is available for download in Apple itunes store and Google Play Store.

“Blinkist offers a terrific service – great ideas distilled down to their very essence. For those of us who are deeply curious about new ideas on success, happiness, innovation, progress and more, it’s a great start.” – Forbes

Give it a try with the three days free offer that allows you to scan and read through their huge list of non-fiction books.

Don’t want to pay?? You can still read one book a day that they offer you to access and read for free.

So what are you waiting for?

Go exercise your brain.

You were born curious. Start learning now!

How To Take A Partial Screenshot On A Chromebook

I often take screenshots for my various online projects and getting to know this amazing built-in feature to take a screenshot has been a big time saver. Essentially, the key combination of

Ctrl +  window switcher will take a quick screenshot of your screen. Easy to use and does a real neat job. Often I’d have to crop my full screenshot to get the required area of the captured image until I found this amazing way to capture only a partial screenshot.

This is what you’d have to do to take a partial screenshot on a chromebook –

1] Use Ctrl + Shift +  window switcher, and it brings in a ‘+’ cursor on to the screen.

2] Make the selection of the part of the screen you want to capture.

3] As you’re done making your selection i.e. when you release the click, it takes the partial screenshot for you.

Taking a partial screenshot on chromebook

Where Do I Find The Captured Images?

By default, the captured image gets saved in the Downloads folder.

This is a great functionality as it makes things quicker, especially when you just need to take a screenshot of a partial screen as you don’t have to bother cropping the image again.

There are lots of other Chrome Extensions that allow you to take screenshots like Awesome Screenshot, Screen Capture, Webpage Screenshot

However when it comes to the easiness of the built in keyboard shortcut, it is insanely simple and saves you time. It’s definitely useful to know this trick and increase your efficiency while you’re working on your important projects on your lovely Chromebook.

If you found this trick useful then please share it so that other awesome Chromebook users can also get the best out of it.

5 Unmistakable Ways To Overcome The Work Load Feeling Of Overwhelm

5 Steps To Overcome The Work Load Overwhelm

Imagine yourself at your workplace. You’re working on this project in which you’ve been struggling to come up with the solution as desired by your client. This has delayed your shipping date.

You feel as if you’re stuck in a rut. You’re mind gets cluttered by clouds of hopelessness. And then you are assigned more deliverables to ship.

“I’m overwhelmed by all this work and information.”

If this is the kind of self-talk you do with yourself, then please read along the 5 unmistakable ways to overcome the work load overwhelm.

1. See how far you’ve come – Often we worry too much about the future than living in the present moment. Take a break to analyze your past actions and the results derived out of it. Do a meta analysis of where you’re at right now, and then plan your next steps. Along the way, do remember to pat yourself in the back as you find yourself accomplishing small feats.

2. Acknowledge your procrastination – Take a moment to calculate how your time adds up throughout the week. There are 168 of it and we all get the same number of hours. If you haven’t been able to get any good progress on the project that you’ve been working on, it’s likely that you have been expending your time in doing other things which are not even remotely related to what you want to accomplish from your work. If you’re confused, try this 2-minute rule to beat procrastination.

3. Ask the ‘Why’ – If you’re on board in a project and have everything planned out, but you still find yourself stuck without any effect, it could be that you don’t like the cause of the project. And thus the effect is not as desired by you. If you haven’t been able to motivate yourself to get to work and start shipping then ask yourself, “Why am I doing this?” The human brain is motivated to take actions towards a particular task if it has a strong why.

4. Exercise and Healthy Diet – What do you feed your body? What’s your physical activity level? These are basic questions you should ask and do a brief analysis. Health should be the number one priority if you want to do remarkable stuff in this world. And when it comes to health, one need not radically make a change in his/her diet. An apple a day and a few pushups/burpees/jumping jacks is often a good start to the day.

5. Keep Moving Forward – The past is gone and you can do nothing more about it but learn from it. The future is yet to come and it can be bright if you’re willing to put up with the wee days and keep moving forward. Stay focused and keep taking actions. Because you already know why you are doing this. You’ve acknowledged your habit of procrastination. Now that you’re true to yourself, do some meditation and then get back to shipping.

Give a shot at the above 5 steps and if it works for you, please feel free to share it with your friends.

Have an unbelievable today.

5 Simple Ways To Create Value In Your Organization

5 SIMPLE WAYS TO CREATE VALUE IN YOUR ORGANIZATION Do you have a job where you work for XYZ company?

If you answered yes – Are you creating value in your organization i.e. maximizing their return of investment on you?

They pay you a salary right, and they expect to get more than what they pay you. Here are 5 simple ways how you could create value in your organization and maximize their profits.

1. Invest on new knowledge – One of the best things you could do to create value in your organization is to invest on acquiring new knowledge. Read a book. take a MOOC course, attend workshops, conferences and webinars, etc that you think would help you to grow, both in your professional and personal life. Adopt the Never Stop Learning’ philosophy in life and you shall maximize your life’s return of investment. Unthink, Made to Stick, To sell is human – these are just 3 books out of the many I’ve read, totally unrelated to my day job but have tremendously helped me to excel at my work place.

2. Healthy diet – The way your body functions is determined by what you feed it everyday. Give it a shot for yourself. Grab a sugary doughnut with coffee one morning and then have steel cut oatmeal on another. Take note of your moods and how you feel 90 min after you eat. I guarantee you’ll see a big difference. And not just the calorie diet but also be conscious of what you feed your mind too. Stay away from the junk news early in the morning. There’s a lot of negativity in them anyways and the last thing you want to learn while starting your day at work is to know how a tourist climber was captured somewhere in West Africa and then beheaded. Follow the morning rituals to maximize your productivity, consume nutritious, super foods and stay away from the negativity, optimal performance will be yours.

3. Emotional Intelligence – This is an absolute essential skill to have to be a linchpin in your organization. If you are able to monitor your own and other people’s emotions, and discriminate between different emotions, you can then use the emotional information to guide thinking and behavior at work. This maximizes the company’s return of investment and also helps you to make an emotional connection with your colleagues while giving them a feeling of sensory relaxation when they are around you. Do not be pretentious at work. The world already has a lot of them. The human psychology is geared to appreciate emotional relationship. Be human.

4. Time management – If you are a master in managing your time efficiently, you’ll be able to get your projects packed and shipped on time, thus having satisfied customers and an even more satisfied boss. Being able to manage one’s time is an absolute necessity in today’s world because all we got is 168 hours in a week. And it’s totally upon us to maximize its value. Learn to be productive with your time at work and outside of work, and see yourself grow. No matter what you’re doing in life, just remember this – the clock’s always ticking…

5.Love your work – Make a list of all the things you believe you like in your work. If you hate your work, then let me help you with a few things on your list. I like my work because it helps me to think thus giving my brain a good exercise. I like my work because it helps me to pay my bills. I like my work because I get to surround myself with experienced professionals in my field. Try to come up with at least 10 things on your list and then chant your list every day – once before going to work and once at the end of the day. But here’s the hook, before you chant, replace the word ‘like’ with ‘love’ and see the magic happen.

If you just follow these 5 simple steps, you’re sure to get noticed in your organization. And if you thought that nobody would notice this effort from your side, just remember that the boss is always keeping an eye on you.

Now go out there, and make epicness happen. If you liked this article, then also check out the 5 minimal smartphone tricks to have laser like focus at work.

5 Minimal Smartphone Tricks To Have Laser Like Focus At Work

5 minimal smartphone tricks to have laser like focus 1. Airplane mode Imagine this scenario – You get an important work related call at 2 past midnight (that was a norm in my IT job). You somehow manage to accept the call after 5 rings. By the time you finish your conversation in half awake-half sleep mode, you have a blurry idea what the call was all about. And then you mess up. Next day, the authorities at work aren’t happy about this. You stay silent. Now what if you had kept your phone in airplane mode. You wouldn’t be awakened by that mysterious call. Although the problem might have already been out there, it wouldn’t have interrupted your sleep. And thus, the authorities now don’t have a good enough reason to confront you. You follow the 5 morning rituals to stay productive and fix the problem. The next thing you know, you’re on a vacation to Nassau. At the end of the day, when you go to bed at night, put all your energy and mind to accomplish one thing – get that 8 h of uninterrupted sleep. If you think you want to change the world and thus you’d rather survive with 4h of sleep. Then go for it. Just don’t wonder if you find yourself gaining weight or get coronary heart disease in the future. Research says that lack of sleep can make you obese or give you a heart attack while watching Monday night football [1,2].

2. Disable notifications Now that you’re awake in the morning after 8h of peaceful sleep, you’re all set to go out their and change the world. You’re working on your dreams but every hour or so you get these notifications through Facebook, Twitter, Gmail that hardly create any value in your life. If you haven’t noticed it before, these stupid notifications can affect your momentum while you’re working. Imagine you’re creating a piece of art and then suddenly you phone dings. If you’re a normal human being then you will be tempted to stop your artwork and look at your phone. Do not do that. The world needs more artists like you. Each app comes with an option to disable notifications. Customize the apps to your preferred notifications that you want to see real time. Everything else can wait.

3. Silent mode In addition to disabling notifications, personally I also prefer to put my phone on silent mode. You’ve got to do that if you want laser like focus and cut that piece of metal with immaculate accuracy. Try putting your smartphone on silent mode during the day at work and analyze your productivity for yourself.

4. Wallpaper You could either have your epic selfie taken in a bar while you were inebriated set as your wallpaper, that might bring a smile on your face for 13 times in total, or you could rev it up with inspirational affirmations. My wallpaper now says – Live Your Dream. And the moment I find myself messing around with my time and the phone comes in front of my gaze, reality gives me a tight slap and then I get to work again. Family pictures are also another good option as when you look at them at work, it reminds you of them thus enhancing your relationship and you are more motivated to excel at work for your loved ones.

5. Cancel screen lock Whether it’s the number combination or the swivel pattern lock, it roughly takes 1.489342234 sec to unlock your phone. Multiply it by 30 and you’ve spent 44.68 sec (rounded off to 2 decimal places) of your life on a single day on doing something totally unproductive.

44.68 * 365 = 16308.2 sec = 271.80 min = 4.53 hours

Multiply the above result by the number of years you’d be using your smartphone and you’ll find a staggering figure. Imagine if you could spend those hours with your loved ones. What could it possibly do to your relationship? What if you used those hours to read awesome books? You’d be called upon as a smart ass in your social circle.

Wouldn’t that be so cool? Life’s short. Use your time efficiently. Have laser like focus at whatever you do in life. If you liked this article, then feel free to share it with your friends on Facebook because at RedSome we believe, sharing is caring. Now go out there and make epicness happen.

5 Sacred Morning Rituals To Boost Your Productivity

5 SACRED MORNING RITUALS TO BOOST YOUR PRODUCTIVITY 1. Exercise – The best way to start your day is to get the blood flowing throughout your central nervous system. It helps boost your productivity and gives you a fresh outlook to celebrate the day ahead. Don’t have a gym membership, try calisthenics (body weight exercises). Throw some pushups, jumping jacks, squats and see how this simple act of shaking your booty in the morning revolutionize the way you perform at work. 2. Pray – Be grateful for the things you have in your life. For the opportunity to live a brand new day your own way. No, you don’t have to be a believer of God to do this. Just close your eyes and pray to Chuck Norris, but be utterly honest with yourself. Best, pray to yourself. There’s nothing wrong with this. Also breathe consciously when you do this. That’s what they call as meditation. This inherent human act is a big fad right now. 3. Eat – There are lots of research out there. But research is boring. Go eat instead. Not junk fast food. Especially if we’re talking about the first meal of the day. That’s going to decide how long you see the sunrise and sunset during this one life you’ve got. Make a nutritious green smoothie without sugar (recipe here) or just crack two hard boiled eggs (dummies guide

to hard boiled eggs). Add a cup of herbal tea and you’re game. 4. Read – Pick up an inspirational piece whether on the internet or even better if it’s a book. Don’t hide those self-help books in your closet for the fear of being judged by your friends. Read them instead. Your friends don’t care anyways. Help in any form is self-help. And you’re just helping yourself. The act of reading exercises your brain in the morning while also promoting the flow of creative juices. So read! Try to stay away from the news though. 5. Create – Don’t spend your life just consuming – food, news, media in any form, more food. You’ll grow fat and will start hating yourself. Go create something instead. Do you think you have zero creativity? Here’s three ways to create something – a) Cook your own breakfast b) Write a haiku c) Sweep the floors Apply the 5 sacred morning rituals mentioned above. And then go change the world. If you found this article interesting, please feel free to share it with your friends because at RedSome we believe, sharing is caring.

Why You Should Take A Nap Right Now?

Did you ever get caught by your history teacher while taking a nap when you were in junior high school?

I’m guilty as charged. Back in the day, I used to feel embarrassed when my teacher would politely yell at me, “Ankur! Please go wash your face.”

Only if I knew back then that naps taken in short intervals of 30 min actually increases productivity in the long run.

Yes, you heard it correct. And this is backed by science.

We all love science, isn’t it?

Don’t believe me, just watch if for yourself.

So take your naps without any guilt. Just be extra cautious when you’re in the room with the CEO discussing company’s strategies for the next fiscal year.

The 2-Minute Rule To Prevent Productivity Paralysis

Do you prefer to organize your daily tasks using to-do-lists so as to stay uber productive?

If yes – has there ever been a situation, when you looked down your to-do-list and were overwhelmed by the number of tasks pending for you to finish thereby paralyzing your productivity completely?

The sheer feeling of accomplishment while striking things off your to-do-list can sometimes be addictive. You might even find yourself caught in the trap of adding almost everything to your productivity system.

To prevent this from happening to you, David Allen, productivity consultant and creator of the time management system “Getting Things Done” says –

“If you determine an action can be done in two minutes, you actually should do it right then because it’ll take longer to organize it and review it than it would to actually finish it the first time you notice it.”

The two-minute rule can prevent many small things from cluttering your system in the first place, while also allowing room for your projects to move forward incessantly.

It helps you to eliminate all of the prioritizing, scheduling, and picking of trivial tasks. Pay the utility bills or call the restaurant to make a reservation – the next time yourself adding a thing on your list during the middle of the day, spend a conscious moment to analyze if that task could be done in two minutes.

If yes – just get done with it then and there. You’ll have one less thing to take care of in the future.
